Map

June 2010. Norfolk NMP.
A World War Two barrage balloon site is visible as the balloon itself and various associated huts and other structures on 1940s aerial photographs (S1)-(S2) (and perhaps also (S3), although it may post-date these photographs), centred at TG 2045 0883. The site is almost certainly that recorded in a bibliographic source (S4) as Site 8, located on the Municipal School playground, Bowthorpe Road. The likely approximate extent of the tethering points for the balloon has been mapped, along with the few possible tethering points that are visible. A few huts and structures to the east are also likely to be related to the balloon site, although this is not necessarily the case.
S. Tremlett (NMP), 12 June 2010.
