Full Description
June 2010. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks of probable infilled post medieval pits, that may have previously been misinterpreted as Bronze Age round barrows, are visible on aerial photographs to the south of Ringland Wood within Taverham Park (S1-S4). The site is centred on TG 1450 1340. Assessment of the two circular features that are visible as both soilmarks (S1) and cropmarks (S2-S4) would indicate that they are likely to represent the remains of infilled pits of post medieval date. Although the fact that a series of oblique aerial photographs were taken of them in 1973 (S3-S4) would suggest that the circular parchmarks surrounded by a darker ring were mistaken for the remains of Bronze Age round barrows by the aerial photographer.
S. Horlock (NMP), 14 June 2010.
