Full Description
June 2010. Norfolk NMP.
Possible World War Two anti-landing obstacles are visible as earthworks (since levelled) on 1940s aerial photographs (S1)-(S2), centred at TG 2190 0597. In common with other areas of such obstacles visible in the vicinity, principally NHER 53373 15m to the southeast, only pits are visible. These contrast with the more extensive systems of pits and ditches/banks evident elsewhere around the city (for example NHER 53254 460m to the west). It is possible that such elements existed at the site but are not clear enough on the consulted aerial photographs to have been identified. By 1944 (S3) much of the site had been subject to considerable disturbance, perhaps due to military activity but it could equally be due to the presence of livestock or similar. The pits have been mapped schematically to provide a representation of their location and size, rather than a detailed depiction of their outline or that of any upcast spoil.
S. Tremlett (NMP), 21 June 2010.
