Full Description
July 2010. Norfolk NMP.
The site of a possible World War Two emergency water tank may be visible on aerial photographs behind housing to the east of Know Road, Norwich (S1-S3). The site is centred on TG 2474 0933 and consists of a possible water tank, although only the base may be visible. The fact that this structure is smaller than other examples mapped and also appears to have an L-shaped structure to its northwest, may indicate that it is not a standard World War Two emergency water tank and may relate to separate class of structure. It is also worth mentioning that the structure is not clearly visible on pre-1945 aerial photographs. It is feasible that it could relate to provision of water to or removal of waste from the adjacent houses. It may be worth mentioning that it looks vaguely reminiscent of some elements of sewage treatment works, although given the context and common presence of emergency water tanks around Norwich, then this seems the most likely interpretation.
S. Horlock (NMP), 01 July 2010.
