Full Description
July 2010. Norfolk NMP.
The site of a possible World War Two spigot mortar emplacement overlooking the River Wensum, Norwich, is visible on aerial photographs (S1-S2). The structure, which was centred on TG 2438 0695, consisted of a roughly circular structure, with some apparent height from the ground, which is possibly surrounded by sandbags (S1). This structure was demolished by 1945 (S2), at which time an internal circular pit (not mapped) was visible. It is therefore possible that this structure was a spigot mortar emplacement.
S. Horlock (NMP), 05 July 2010.
