Full Description
July 2010. Norfolk NMP.
The site of a possible World War Two spigot mortar emplacement and slit trench protecting the Stoke Road bridge over the River Wensum at Trowse Newton may be visible on aerial photographs (S1-S3). The site is centred on TG 2381 0595. The eastern component of the site consists of a possible spigot mortar defence set within an elongated pit and a possible slit trench may be visible to west. Neither of these defences are identified with absolute certainty and it is possible that both, more so the slit trench, relate to vegetation marks and non-military activity, as may be suggested by (S2). However given the location, in close proximity to a road block on the bridge over the River Wensum (NHER 52308), the interpretation seems highly probable.
