Full Description
July 2010. Norfolk NMP.
The site of World War Two air raid shelters and temporary huts, possibly nissens or similar, on the site of bomb damaged school off Quebec Road, Norwich (S1-S2). The site is centred on TG 2415 0857. Aerial photographs from 1942 (S1) indicate that the school has been bomb damaged, with only the shell of the building remaining. A number of surface air raid shelters are visible (S1). By September 1945 (S2) the site has been cleared and three large huts, possibly nissens or a similar type of hut, have been erected. Only the northern surface shelter remains, although the entrance to an underground shelter is visible along the eastern edge of the playing ground. It seems likely that the huts are being used as temporary school rooms, although it is feasible that the site has been taken over by the military.
