Summary

Up to three World War Two bomb craters are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs. The relatively ‘fresh’ appearance of at least two of the craters on aerial photographs taken in April 1942 suggests that they were the product of the ‘Baedeker’ raids or ‘Norwich blitz’ carried out that month.

Map

June 2010. Norfolk NMP.
Two definite and one probable World War Two bomb craters are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs (S1)-(S4), centred at TG 2205 0991, TG 2205 0982 and TG 2207 0983. The relatively ‘fresh’ appearance of the two southernmost craters on aerial photographs taken in April 1942 (S1) suggests that they were the product of the ‘Baedeker’ raids or ‘Norwich blitz’ carried out that month. The northern crater is less certain as it is not particularly clear on the consulted aerial photographs and is also not particularly circular; it could instead be a pond.
The craters have been mapped schematically to provide an indication of their location and approximate extent rather than a detailed record of their outlines or that of any upcast material.
S. Tremlett (NMP), 25 June 2010.
