Map

June 2010. Norfolk NMP.
The site of a World War Two Barrage balloon and military activity is visible on aerial photographs (S1-S7) on land within the Cathedral Close sports ground, Norwich.
Slit trenches are visible to the south east of the area, at approximately TG 2385 0877 and in the northwest corner of the field, at approximately TG 2376 0893, in 1942 (S1). This is followed by the arrival of the Barrage balloon later that year (S2-S3), which appears to be tethered in the vicinity of TG 2387 0880, and may be Norwich Barrage balloon ‘site 18’ (S8).
Huts and further associated military activity is also visible on the site, remnants of which are still visible in 1945 (S5-S6) and 1947 (S7), centred on TG 2376 0890.
