Full Description
March 2010. Norfolk NMP.
A probable World War Two emergency water tank is visible as what was presumably an extant structure on aerial photographs (S1)-(S3), centred at TG 2314 0994. Although the size and regular shape of the feature suggest it is probably a water tank, on the consulted aerial photographs it is only visible as a dark, circular mark, and consequently its interpretation remains uncertain. It could instead represent a bomb crater, also of World War Two date, but this seems unlikely as the site is neatly positioned in the corner of a garden, in the angle between two roads, whereas the positioning of a bomb crater would be more random. The presumed structure had been removed by May 1947, when only the remains of the base, or the scar left by the removal of the base, are visible (S4). The site has since been incorporated into the road junction which formerly lay to its south, and it is not known whether any element still survives below ground.
S. Tremlett (NMP), 1 March 2010.
