Full Description
July 2010. Norfolk NMP.
Undated or possible Roman ditches are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1) on land to the east of Valley Farm, Bawburgh. These cropmarks are centred on TG 1590 0939. At least one linear ditch is visible depicted on a 2nd edition Ordnance Survey map (S2), and has not been mapped. These cropmarks are fragmentary and ephemeral, and it is possible that they relate to underlying geological features rather than archaeology. However, multi-period finds including Roman pottery and a Roman brooch (NHER 14271) have been recovered from the area, and the route of the possible Bawburgh to Bishop Bridge Roman road (NHER 5244) passes through the middle of the site.
E. Bales (NMP), 20 July 2010.
