Map

March 2009. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks of a group of fragmentary undated ditches, probably representing the remains of field boundaries, are visible on aerial photographs to the northwest of former site of St Marys Church, Swainsthorpe (S1). The site is centred on TG 2243 0055.
Given the lack of relationship between these fragmentary ditches and components of the medieval and post medieval landscape, a pre-medieval date seems most likely. Within the general vicinity of the cropmarks finds have been recorded from Roman and Saxon (NHER 9724). Although it is felt that these cropmarks are likely to relate to former ditched boundaries, it remains a possibility that these features are associated with drainage.
S. Horlock (NMP), 11 March 2009.
