Map

March 2009. Norfolk NMP.
The site of a former World War Two anti-aircraft battery is visible on aerial photographs to the east of Abbott’s Farm, Stoke Holy Cross (S1-S2). The site is centred on TG 2495 0075. The site has largely been dismantled by April 1946, although one possible structural component may remain at this date. The site of the guns and searchlight are only visible as parchmarks revealing their former position. The parchmarks indicated that the site consists of a line of three emplacements, all circular or sub-circular in shape, all approximately 15m across. To the north is a larger circular emplacement, potentially for a searchlight. A small structure positioned inbetween the guns and the searchlight may be the remains of a predictor or generator or similar operational structure. A small possible structure alongside the eastern boundary of the site may relate to the World War Two usage of the site, however it was considered more likely to have an agricultural function.
