Summary

In 2010 the farm buildings in the north of The Grange Farm complex were recorded prior to conversion, which included a threshing barn, cart shed and milking shed with attached bull pen, stock enclosure and calf house. The buildings appear to have been arranged in their present form at the same time that late 18th century Georgian additions were made to the Farmhouse. A lime mortar plaque with the date 'TO 1799' is located on the threshing barn.

Map

March 2010. Historic building recording.
The farm buildings in the north area of The Grange Farm complex include a single storey cart shed in the south constructed from brick and flint with King post roof trusses. The buildings around a western courtyard appear to have been used as a milking shed with calving rooms, diary room and bull pen. The courtyard to the east appears to have been a young stock and beef rearing yard with a part clay lump, part flint boundary wall. The single storey covered area has brick and flint walls to the north and east with open cart shed divisions to the south. The building is a mix of vernacular with uncommon large bricks used in the northern flint wall construction. It is possible that this wall was renovated during the early 20th century. The central threshing barn is constructed mostly from brick with some flint and heavy oak beams for load bearing onto very thick walls. The building appears to have change little in form from the late 18th century.
