This record details archaeologically significant material recovered during off-shore dredging within Aggregates Extraction Licence Area 430. These discoveries were reported to English Heritage through the Marine Aggregate Industry Protocol for Reporting Finds of Archaeological Interest. See (S1) and (S2) for further details.

Pre 21 January 2008. Off-shore Dredging.
Found at UMA's Ridham Wharf:
1 post-medieval cannon ball. Potentially associated with the Anglo-Dutch wars of the 17th century.
See Discovery Report (S3) and reporting protocol annual report (S4) for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 30 March 2016.

28 January 2008. Off-shore Dredging.
Found at UMA's Greenwich Wharf:
2 post-medieval cannon balls. The diameters of these cannon balls are 4.5 inches and 4 inches. One weighs 3.5kg and the other weighs 2.5kg. The calibre of the cannons suggest that they might be associated with the Anglo-Dutch wars during the 17th century. Two battles were fought in the area, the Battle of Lowestoft in 1665 and the Battle of Sole Bay in 1672. The 4 inch cannon ball is likely to have been fired by a gun called a saker and the 4.5 inch cannon ball by a nine pounder.
See Discovery Report (S5) and reporting protocol annual report (S4) for further details.
S. Howard (NLA), 8 September 2010.

Pre 6 March 2008. Off-shore Dredging.
Found at UMA's Ridham Wharf:
2 post-medieval cannon balls. Potentially associated with the Anglo-Dutch wars of the 17th century. Both represent a calibre suitable for an 18-pounder gun, a gun widely deployed on First and Second Rate vessels in the Battle of Lowestoft.
See Discovery Reports (S6) and (S7) and reporting protocol annual report (S4) for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 30 March 2016.

Pre 18 March 2008. Off-shore Dredging.
Found at UMA's Ridham Wharf:
2 post-medieval cannon balls. Potentially associated with the Anglo-Dutch wars of the 17th century. The larger of the two represents a calibre suitable for an 18-pounder gun, a gun widely deployed on First and Second Rate vessels in the Battle of Lowestoft. The smaller example represents a calibre suitable for a saker.
See Discovery Report (S8) and reporting protocol annual report (S4) for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 30 March 2016.

Pre 23 April 2008. Off-shore Dredging.
Found at UMA's Ridham Wharf:
1 post-medieval cannon ball. Potentially associated with the Anglo-Dutch wars of the 17th century. Thought to have been fired by a 9-pounder, measuring 4.5 inches and weighing 8lbs.
See Discovery Report (S9) and reporting protocol annual report (S4) for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 30 March 2016.

Pre 23 September 2013. Off-shore Dredging.
Found by the crew of Lafarge Tarmac's City of Westminster:
1 post-medieval cannon ball. Potentially associated with the Anglo-Dutch wars of the 17th century. A cannon ball of this size would probably have been fired by a 42 pounder gun.
See Discovery Report (S10) and reporting protocol annual report (S11) for further details.
J. Page (HES), 23 January 2014.

October 2013. Off-shore Dredging.
Found at CEMEX's Northfleet Wharf:
1 undatable wooden ?trenail or dowel. Trenails were objects used in ship construction, being driven through the structure in order to secure joints or planks.
See Discovery Report (S12) and reporting protocol annual report (S13) for further details.
