Full Description
September 2010. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks of fragmentary and dispersed ditches, the majority of which are likely to represent former field boundaries of unknown date, are visible on aerial photographs in the area of Mack’s Lane Taverham (S1-S3). The site is centred on TG 1692 1309. It must be noted that the area of this site, in particular the western part, contained cropmarks which were omitted from the mapping due it being felt that they were of geological origin. Finds in the area include material of Neolithic and Bronze Age date (NHER 7833, 7843, 7895 &12195) and Roman, Saxon and medieval date (NHER 7837 & 32286). The dispersed and fragmentary cropmarks grouped under this site may therefore represent features ranging in date over these periods. Other cropmarks in this area have been recorded under NHER 54475-6 as they appeared to represent more coherent phases of fields and ditches, at least one of which is likely to be Roman in date.
