Summary

The cropmarks of undated ditches and former field boundaries are visible on aerial photographs to the south of the Marriott’s Way at Costessey. Some of these cropmarks were previously recorded under NHER 7889 (now NHER 35726). Finds in this general area include prehistoric, Iron Age, Roman, Saxon and medieval material (NHER 17254, 17997, 35726, 35728 & 34875). It is therefore possible that the cropmarks relate to one or more of these periods, although a pre-medieval date is most likely given the lack of relationship between the ditches and the surrounding field layout.
