Full Description
September 2006.
Aerial photographs show a ring ditch surrounded by a square enclosure, with a possible track way entering the ring ditch to the south running from the south-east of the field to the north-west.
See (S1).
D. Lefeuvre (NLA), 4 October 2010.
October 2012. Norfolk NMP.
The ring ditch described above is clearly visible on aerial photographs (S1), centred on TL 9877 9041. It measures 28m in internal diameter, 32m externally. It is possible that the ring ditch represents a Bronze Age round barrow, although it is not possible to be certain of this, especially since significant finds from the area have been dated to the Early to Middle Saxon period (NHER 36321, 51275).
Fragments of a possible square enclosure are visible to the north, and possibly to the south of the ring ditch, although it is difficult to say whether these ditch fragments do form an enclosure, or whether they in fact relate to geological marks, as there is a great deal of background geology in this field, and the features are only visible on one set of photographs.
A possible trackway running southwest from the ring ditch is visible from TL 9873 9041 to TL 9898 9016, although this has also been recorded with a note of caution.
E. Ford (NMP), 17 October 2012.
