Full Description
September 2010. Norfolk NMP.
The earthworks of a possible World War Two military training site are visible on aerial photographs to the south of School Road, Taverham (S1-S3). The site, which is centred on TG 1796 1382, consists of several slots flanked by banks of upcast and/or sand bags. The nature of the site is not entirely clear, the earthworks have a similar appearance to shooting butts making up a small rifle or shooting range, although this is not certain and they may relate to a different military function. A rectangular hut or similar structure has been mapped to the north of the site, however it is not clear whether this is part of the World War Two site or agricultural in function.
S. Horlock (NMP), 28 September 2010.
