Summary

A circular parchmark visible on aerial photographs could feasibly represent the remains of a Bronze Age round barrow, although this is uncertain. The archaeological significance of this cropmark is uncertain and it is possible that the marks are derived from an underlying infilled pit or geological feature.

Map

April 2009. Norfolk NMP.
A circular parchmark visible on aerial photographs (S1-S2) could feasibly represent the remains of a Bronze Age round barrow, although this is uncertain. This possible barrow is centred on TG 2057 0224 and measures 15.5m in diameter. The archaeological significance of this cropmark is uncertain and it is possible that the marks are derived from an underlying infilled pit or geological feature. The cropmarks look more convincingly archaeological on (S1) than on (S2), which although taken on the same day potentially catch the vegetation from a different angle. The fact that the site is located to the immediate north of a medieval to post medieval field boundary (see NHER 52063) could add to some weight to the interpretation of this feature as an infilled pit, rather than a barrow.
