Map

April 2009. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks represent the remains of multiple phases of fragmentary ditches of unknown date are visible on aerial photographs to the north and northwest of Henstead Workhouse (NHER 9770), Swainsthorpe (S1-S4). The site is centred on TG 2124 0154. The cropmarks represent several phases of undated cropmarks, the majority of which are likely to represent the remains of former field boundaries. Finds in the general vicinity include Roman date material (NHER 40429) and it is possible that at least some of the ditches are Roman in date. It must be noted that an area of linear ditch-like cropmarks (S3) were omitted from the mapping in the area of TG 2116 0141 to the immediate north of the workhouse due to the probability they were part of the modern drainage scheme evident on the aerial photographs.
S. Horlock (NMP), 23 April 2009.
