Map

June 2010. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks of undated ditches and former field boundaries are visible to the west of Red Barn, Honingham (S1-S2). The site is centred on TG 1167 1042. The site consists of a series of fragmentary ditches, which are likely to represent former field boundaries or unknown date. The ditch located at TG 1156 1049 had the appearance of being part of three sides of an enclosure (S2), however the ditches to the north were omitted from the mapping due to the probability that they related to agricultural tramlines. Finds of prehistoric, Saxon and medieval date have been found within the general vicinity of the cropmarks (NHER 20008, 20010).
S. Horlock (NMP), 08 June 2010.

January 2016. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of southern part of field west of Blind Lane and north of Grange Lane.
The area examined coincided with three of the fragmentary cropmarks in this group, one of which appeared to coincide with a linear geophysical anomaly (a north-west to south-east aligned feature at TG 1156 1049).
See report (S3) and NHER 65209 for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 16 May 2022.

March-April 2016. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of southern part of field west of Blind Lane and north of Grange Lane.
The trenches excavated coincided with only one of the cropmarks in this group, which was the one the preceding geophysical survey suggested was probably associated with surviving sub-surface remains. A potentially corresponding ditch was identified, which produced a single sherd of Late Iron Age/early Roman transitional pottery.
See report (S4) and NHER 65209 for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 16 May 2022.
