Map

March 2009. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks of undated ditches, representing the remains of former field boundaries of possible Iron Age to Roman date, are visible on aerial photographs to the south of Chandler Road, Stoke Holy Cross (S1-S4). The site is centred on TG 2373 0266. Given the proximity of this site to the Roman town and extramural settlement at Caistor St Edmund (NHER 9786) it is probable that some of these fragmentary ditches may be Roman in date. It is also possible that the ditches and/or trackway to the south of the site, following a SW-NE and NW-SE alignment (S1) could be medieval in date, due to the similar orientation to medieval enclosures and boundaries recorded to the south (NHER 52237).
