Map

November 2010. Norfolk NMP.
A possible linear bank is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs on land to the north and south of the Brandon to Norwich railway line, Kilverstone Heath. It runs from TL 9067 8720 to TL 9060 8684 and it measures 361m in length by 3.1m in width. It is not visible on the historic maps of the area, but is likely to represent part of a post medieval trackway running roughly north-south across Kilverstone heath. The location of this feature should be viewed with a little caution as the portion of the aerial photograph that it was mapped from was difficult to rectify and its position may not be entirely accurate. It has been recorded due to the fact that it appears to be different in character to the numerous later trackways visible running across the heath, which have not been mapped, but which are centred to the south on TL 9062 8682, and are visible as earthworks and cropmarks on aerial photographs (S2-S3). It is possible that it represents one of the post medieval roads, most likely the 'Hockham Way,' marked on Fousoe's Map of 1742 (S4), although this earthwork may be too far to the east.
