Summary

A possible World War Two weapons pit is visible on aerial photographs on land to the east of the River Thet, Thetford. It is likely that it was in use for defending Melford Bridge, in the absence of any apparent road blocks in the area. A second possible weapons pit may be visible approximately 370m to the north, defending the railway (NHER 54557). It is also possible that one or more or the earthworks mapped here may represent the spigot mortar emplacement NHER 32694 recorded in the vicinity.
