Summary

An area northwest of Old Hall (NHER 6150) is labelled 'Salt Pans' and 'Saltings' on an early 20th century Ordnance Survey map. In 1964 rectangular earthworks and low banks, possibly the remains of salt workings, were recorded at the site.

These are marked as 'Salt Pans' on the (S2), with Saltings on the other side of the bank, but what is the circular building marked on the adjacent bank on that map? Is it connected?

Land-based survey; Cley, Salthouse and Kelling fresh-marshes, Context 4:
A group of banks, mounds and hollows located between TG 04590 44166 and TG 04748 44244. The features could be evidence for saltworking. A piece of post-medieval roof tile and a piece of modern slag were collected.
