Map

January 2011. Historic Building Recording.
Record made of redundant agricultural building prior to their proposed conversion.
The enclosure and tithe maps indicates that agricultural building were present on the site in the early 19th century but these were in a different location to the present barn (S1-2). The buildings that survive are first depicted on the ordnance survey 1st edition map (S3). The barns are located along the east side of Seething Street in the conservation area. The barns were originally within the curtilage of the grade II Pond Farm House and are also grade II listed. The construction comprises clay lump block with brick plinths at ground level and a pantile roof. The external walls have been covered with clay daub and coal tar. It is possible that the replacement on the earlier buildings shown on the enclosure maps took place between 1838 and 1886, which could have been due to the brick tax being abolished in 1850 combined with the abundance of clay to make clay-lumps for construction.
