Map

August 2010. Trial Trench.
A single trial trench was excavated in advance of the construction of two dwellings.
The shallow topsoil layer exposed an alluvial silt deposit. The only feature visible in this layer was interpreted as a wheel rut created during clearance of the site. An exploratory sondage confirmed that the silt deposit was fairly homogenous and extended to a depth of 1m, suggesting that it was laid down when the site was unenclosed salt marsh.
No significant archaeological finds or features were observed.
See report (S1) for further details.

January 2013. Watching Brief.
Monitoring of groundworks associated with construction of a new dwelling.
The excavation of foundation trenches revealed a 0.30m thick layer of friable, dark grey brown sandy silt topsoil directly overlaying natural deposits of friable, pale brownish yellow clayey sand. No archaeological finds or features were encountered.
See report (S2) for further information.
The associated archive has been deposited with the Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2016.238).
