Summary

In November 2010 an archaeological evaluation revealed a construction cut containing three fragments of 15th to 16th century brick. A number of undated features including a gully, pit and ditch were also recorded. Observations of groundworks in 2012 did not record any further archaeological features or finds.

November 2010. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of proposed development site.
Excavation of two trial trenches recorded a construction cut containing three fragments of 15th- to 16th-century brick as well as a gully, a pit and a ditch. The latter remain undated. Residual finds were limited to a single fragment of 14th or 15th century brick.

September 2012. Watching Brief.
Excavation of foundation trenches for several new dwellings was monitored.
The trenches reached a depth of 0.50m to 0.65m and exposed 0.30-0.39m of friable, sandy silt topsoil overlaying 0.15m to 0.26m of clay silt subsoil, which in turn overlaid natural sandy gravel. No archaeological features or finds were observed.
