Summary

A USAAF B24 Liberator bomber aircraft crashed at this site on 21st April 1944. A memorial to the crew was erected in 2001.

A USAAF B24 Liberator bomber aircraft crashed at this site on 21st April 1944. The aircraft was B24J 41-29418 'Pappys Chillun' of the 68th Bomb Squadron, 44th Bomb Group based at Shipdham. Eight of the ten crew members were killed in the crash. A memorial was erected at the site in 2001. The exact location of the crash site is not clear, but newspaper reports from when the memorial was unveiled suggest that it lies to the south of the River Wensum.
