A USAAF B24 Liberator bomber aircraft crashed at this site on 21st April 1944. The aircraft was B24J 41-29418 'Pappys Chillun' of the 68th Bomb Squadron, 44th Bomb Group based at Shipdham. Eight of the ten crew members were killed in the crash. A memorial was erected at the site in 2001.
