Map

January - February 2011. Site visit.
Cold War bunker in the garden of Quaker Farm (NHER 48757). This was installed around 1968 and was bought as a pre-fabricated kit for £120, presumably from World War Two USA air force surplus. The bunker is covered by an earthen mound, with a brick-lined entrance, heavy duty main door, air inlet pipe and air filter mechanism, an escape shaft with an iron ladder in a separate compartment with half-height heavy duty door, water butts, sink, chemical toilet, 'exercise bicycle' and various other fixtures and fittings all bought separately (and several of German manufacture). The bunker is occasionally opened to local people by the present owners.
