Full Description
Tumulus marked on Ordnance Survey map (S1) in Salthouse Heath Plantation.
Difficult to find.
L. V. Grinsell and R. R. Clarke (NCM).
Bowl barrow, about 30m diameter, about 1.1m high, difficult to be precise due to dense cover of rhododendrons in wood.
A. J. Lawson (NAU), 30 January 1976.
See (S2).
January 1984.
Thick scrub and rhododendrons; could not locate mound.
J. J. Wymer (NAU), 31 January 1984.
June 1986.
Area cleared. Mound as 1976 entry with tall thin oaks on mound. Rhododendrons regenerating.
J. J. Wymer (NAU), 26 June 1986.
1994.
Situated in Taylor's Wood, at present under cover of scrub. This renders site difficult to recognise. However, a grant aided woodland management scheme is currently being undertaken with no replanting on the mound itself.
H. Paterson (NLA), 23 May 1994.
1995. Scheduling reviewed.
Schedule description says 1.1m high 27m across.
Information from (S3) and (S4).
E. Rose (NLA),17 November 1995.
October 2002. Norfolk NMP.
Earthworks of round barrow, visible on the 1946 RAF aerial photographs (S5) and Ordnance Survey aerial photographs from 1969 (S6). The diameter of the mound is appears to be around 25m. These dimensions are slighter smaller than previous dimensions given. However the exact dimensions are hard to discern from the air, due to the surrounding vegetation.
S. Massey (NMP), 23 December 2002.
May 2003. Field observations.
Dense brambles, barrow not found.
D. Gurney (NLA), 18 June 2003
