Map

In 1897 a small magneto signalling switchboard was installed in a shop on Baker St. 9am to 4:30pm on weekdays and 10am to 12pm on Sundays. 24/7 service commenced in 1915. The equipment was changed to the central-battery type in 1929. The station was made automatic in 1966, by then making 25 switchboard staff redundant. In 1900 a cable was laid in the river to connect Great Yarmouth and Gorleston to allow cross-town telephoning.
