Map

This was the last site used by the shoe making firm. Having been in business since 1899 they owned several premises before settling on Drayton Road in 1914. In April 1942 the factory was destroyed by bombs and production was moved to Starling Road whilst the Drayton premises were rebuilt. The rebuilt factory was large and open plan on the ground floor and the first floor occupied only the front of the building. The site NHER 53579 is related to the factory. These air-raid shelters were built for the employees of the firm in case of an air raid during working hours. When NIAS surveyed the site in 2002 it was being cleared out for demolition. The factory is visible on 1946 RAF aerial photographs of Norwich. The site is now occupied by townhouses.
