Full Description
The sidings to the east of Dereham railway station were built to serve a military depot. Granite chippings and tar were delivered here for mixing at an adjacent tar works which was then distributed around the county for surfacing airfields. The depot was also an ammunition and ordnance store. Although demolished, the concrete bases for the buildings remained in situ until the site was cleared in 1996 for redevelopment. The sidings are visible on 1946 RAF aerial photographs.

The Second World War railway sidings described above are visible as extant structures and buildings on 1940s aerial photographs (S2-S3). The site has been mapped by extent. The tracks themselves are not clear on the photographs, partly because they are occupied by freight trucks. A small curved-profile hut is visible at the northern end of the site. A cluster of structures at the northern end of the westernmost track (at approximately TF 9964 1300) may be a hopper and associated machinery. Only the hut, which is possibly a Nissen hut, has been mapped individually. The most recent available Google Earth aerial photography (S4) shows that the site has been levelled.
