NHER 55626 (Building record) - Earsham Hall timber yard

This site is a timber processing yard on the Earsham Hall estate. As it is on an estate it is not recorded in directories and as a result is difficult to accurately date. The buildings are of brick and timber. The workshop adjacent to the Orangery (NHER16257) is of brick and pantile construction and the other buildings are timber set on dwarf walls. The engine room (also brick) houses a 13hp oil engine, last used in 1974, which according to the NIAS survey of 1979 looked in still usable condition with blow lamp intact. This engine powered line shafting and pulleys that transferred the motive power to the other buildings. These included a circular saw, a band saw, granary sack hoist and possibly a lathe. The timber store contains a filled in saw pit. The workshop contains an anvil and various furnace equipment, suggesting that this site was used for general estate maintenance as well as timber processing.
