June-July 2011. Watching Brief.
Monitoring of groundworks associated with construction of residential dwelling.
These works revealed a number of post holes in the base of the bank at the eastern side of the site and post-medieval features including building foundations, a cistern and well. Finds were limited to a a decorated 19th-century armorial style clay tobacco pipe. The fact that no other finds or features were encountered is probably because this site was heavily landscaped/terraced in the 19th century.
See report (S2) for further details.
S. Howard (HES), 15 August 2011.
