Summary

During a rapid earthwork identification survey in 1998 a number of pits that could relate to 19th-century gunflint mining or 20th-century gravel extraction were located. The profile of the extraction area surface does not exhibit the same characteristics of other known gun flint extraction sites, suggesting that it does not represent a flint-working site.

Rapid Earthwork Identification Survey (Compartment 6100).
A number of pits that could relate to 19th-century gunflint mining were located but the name Gravel Pit Wood on the 1944 ordnance survey map could suggest that these are the remains of 20th-century gravel extraction pits.
