Map

August 2011. Geophysical Survey.
A detailed magnetometer survey was carried out over a single large field in advance of proposed development.
Four positive linear anomalies were detected. Two of these were oriented north-south, dividing the area into three portions. The other two were oriented east-west. The first of these was located in the western half of the field and would have divided the area into a northern and southern field. The other east-west boundary was a short length in the extreme northeast of the field.
The First Edition Ordnance Survey Map (S1) depicts three fields here: the western two-thirds were divided into a northern and southern field while the eastern third remained separate. Three of the four linear features detected during the survey correspond to these field divisions. However, the western north-south division does not appear to have been in use at this time and therefore may pre-date this arrangement.
The surveyors also noted a high concentration of small, intensely magnetised anomalies indicative of ferrous or ceramic debris in the ploughsoil throughout the surveyed area.
See reports (S2) and (S3) for further information.
