Map

One of 7 surviving milestones along the Norwich to Bungay road, which never became a turnpike. This milestone is of an unusual shape, measuring 13" across the front and 16" across the back, with a semi-circular step cut into the back of the stone, possibly indicating that this was also used as a Mounting Block. No inscription is legible on the front, however the 6" OS map of 1887 records the distances of Norwich 4, Bungay 10.

(S1) contains information regarding this and other milestones along this road.
D. Holburn (HES), 18 January 2012.

2012. Maintenance work by the Milestone Society.
One of 60 milestones restored to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, see publication (S2).
The lettering was re-cut and members of the Milestone Society cleaned and painted this marker.
Information from survey form (S3) and photographs (S4).
H. Mellor (HES), 24 May 2018.
