Full Description
This milestone is one of 5 surviving milestones in the Norfolk section of the Cambridge, Ely and Downham Market turnpike, which was created in 1762, linking Cambridge, Ely and Soham, before being extended in 1770 to Littleport and Downham Market.
This is likely to a later addition or replacement of an earlier milestone, as it is a v-plan cast-iron milestone with a vertical headplate.
The inscription reads:
(top) SOUTHERY [arched]/TO/LONDON/79;
LHS: ELY [arched]/12/CAMBRIDGE/28;
RHS: DOWNHAM [arched]/5/LYNN/16
