Full Description
One of two surviving milestones along the former Downham Market to Fincham turnpike, which was created in 1772 and lasted until 1865.
This is an early 20th Century cast-iron, Norfolk County Council style milestone, but does not have a maker's cast mark. The parish is shown vertically on the spine of the milestone, while the locations are written at an angle compared to the rest of the writing on the milestone.
The inscription reads:
Top: NCC/MAIN ROAD;
LHS: TO/DOWNHAM/5/MILES;
RHS: TO/SWAFFHAM/9/MILES.
