Full Description
April 2012. Field Observation.
Surviving World War Two road block made of vertical railway tracks set in concrete, located in the garden of 7 Bridge Street (NHER 44554). This was once part of a road block at the junction of George Lane and High Street (S1). The rails were placed to stop vehicles demolishing the garden wall and circumnavigating the road block.
Seven rails still survive in situ.
C. Kolonko (HES), 23 April 2012.
December 2021-February 2022. Watching Brief.
The construction of an extension to the north-facing elevation of 7 Bridge Street saw the partial removal of this road block. The post closest to the house was reduced to ground level and the adjacent post was removed entirely.
See report (S2) and NHER 66689 for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 26 February 2023.
