Map

May 2012. Norfolk NMP.
A World War Two searchlight battery site comprising a diagnostic trefoil bank feature, along with related structures, is visible on aerial photographs (S1-S4) to the east of Burgh Common, Attleborough. It was presumably located to defend the nearby Old Buckenham airfield (NHER 9235).
The trefoil bank feature is centred on TM 0665 9451. Further structures are visible at the western entrance to the field. Another possible structure, which may be related to the searchlight battery, has also been mapped in the field to the north, at TM 0662 9457. It is possible that this structure may have been related to agricultural activity, however.
