Summary

This complex of buildings, inlcuding a late 17th century timber-framed cottage and attached smithy has recently been demolished (June 2012). The 17th cntury cotatge was of one-and -a-half storeys and two bays plus a just off centre axial stack. Very unusual system of tying by using through tenons in the principal posts to avoid having tie beams through the upper rooms. Long tension braces to north gable -end. Smithy with two hearths connected to a single flue over a brick arch

Timber-framed cottage with attached Smithy. Cottage was of late 17th century with interesting details including long tension braces and a novel system of tying - using the transverse principal joists as ties through the use of strong through tenons. Smthy retained two hearthes connected to a single flue beneath a brick arch. For details see (S1)
