Map

September 2012
A surviving WW2 surface Air raid shelter built to accommodate around 20 people. The building has been modified after the war by removing the blast walls and adding two windows its East side. It is currently used as a tool shed/workshop.
It is likely that this Air raid shelter was constructed to provide protection for local Civil Defence Volunteers. It is also probably associated with the remains of a nearby Nissen hut which is rumoured to have once been the local mortuary constructed to deal with casualties in the event of an air raid.
There is also the possibility that this structure was an ARP warden’s post.
