Full Description
July 2012. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks and soilmarks of a major medieval to post medieval bank and parish boundary are on aerial photographs in the parishes of Attleborough and Deopham Green (S1-S3). The site is centred on TM 0421 9844 and mainly consists of a broad bank, flanked by a ditch in places along the southern section of the monument, where it coincides with the modern parish boundary for a distance. The northern part of the boundary runs broadly parallel to the parish boundary, but up to 60m to the east. It is not clear whether this reflects an earlier route to the boundary or whether this acted as a common edge boundary for Hookwood Common as depicted on Faden’s 1797 map (S4).
S. Horlock (NMP), 26 October 2012.
Finds recovered in January-February 2015 and previously recorded here in error are now recorded under NHER 61177.
A. Beckham (HES), 15 October 2015.
