NHER 57459 (Monument record) - Cropmarks of undated linear ditches, possibly relating to Shropham Quarry site 53158

Cropmarks of undated linear ditches are visible on aerial photographs (S1-S2) on land to the east of Longmeadow Plantation, Shropham. It is possible that these cropmarks may be related to the Middle to Late Iron Age site (NHER 53158) located to the east, although it is difficult to be certain of this.
The site is centred on TL 9913 9415, and consists of linear ditches which are oriented largely north-south or east-west. Fragments of a possible trackway to the west of the area, and a possible enclosure, centred on TL 9932 9419, are visible, along with possible drainage ditches to the south. Since it was not possible to positively associate any of these cropmarks with the ditches excavated during an evaluation of the area to the east (NHER 53041) their date is uncertain.
Slight cropmarks are also visible in the north-western corner of the field on an oblique photograph (S3), however it was considered more likely that these marks are geological in nature, since there are many geological cropmarks in the area, and consequently they have not been mapped.
