Full Description
Site previously allocated duplicate NHER number 56130 in error.
August 2011. Walkover Survey.
Rapid earthwork identification survey.
Former extraction pits and probable access track c. 3m wide and less than 0.2m deep aligned north-east towards the road.
See report (S1) for further details.
S. Howard (HES), 15 September 2011.
February 2017. 'Brecks from Above' and Breckland National Mapping Programme.
The area of extraction and associated trackway described above are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs, such as (S2), and lidar imagery (S3). Neither is depicted on either the Ordnance Survey First Edition 6-inch map (S4), or the Second Edition 25-inch map (S5), and both are probably of modern date. The trackway was in use in the 1940s and remains in use today; the quarry overlaps with a large Second World War pit or emplacement (part of NHER 61543). None of the site has been transcribed for the project, but the mapped extent of this record has been amended to reflect the features as visible on the lidar imagery [1].
S. Tremlett (Norfolk Historic Environment Service), 10 February 2017.
