Full Description
November 2012. Norfolk NMP.
The site of a former World War Two building may be visible on aerial photographs alongside Station Road, Attleborough (S1-S2). The site is centred on TM 0509 9515. The plan and construction style of the building and the fact that it appears fairly new in appearance in 1946, could indicate that it relates to a military building, although it must be borne in mind that it may in fact have an industrial function or relate to the railway station that it is located in proximity to. The arrangement of hard standing alongside the standing structure suggests that additional structures have been removed at the site. The size of the standing structure and those possible areas already removed could indicate the former presence of a sizeable military installation. A possible small oblong earthen feature alongside the building may also represent an air raid shelter.
Part is this building is still standing in 1970 (S2), but has since been removed.
